Backlogs and Buying New Games….

Backlogs and Buying New Games….
Damn, I really want Persona 4 Golden… but honestly will I get time to play it? Ignoring Four in February I have so much still to play (that I do really want to get around to at some point! Backlogs are a bad thing for motivation to play games. Here are just some of my outstanding games….
Professor Layton series on DS
Dragon Quest 4/5/6 remakes on DS
Retro City Rampage on Vita
The various Grand Theft Auto games for PSP/DS/PC
Chono Trigger
The various Mario games for 3DS that are in differ stages of completion
All the Zelda games I own (between Virtual Console, DS, and 3DS.. Link’s Awakening, Minish Cap, Ocarina of Time, Tingle’s Rupee Land)
Pokemon Conquest and Super Pokemon Rumble
Animal Crossing (Although one doesn’t really ‘complete’ Animal Crossing!)
Morrowind/Oblivion/Skyrim
All of the Fallout games (without getting bored 4 hours in)
Just Cause 2
Cave Story and Mutant Mudds
Faster than Light
Various Paradox Strategy games (although they are apparently very time consuming)
Leisure Suit Larry series (Damn you, GOG)
Orcs Must Die
The Walking Dead
The Stalker Series
Half Life series
The various tycoon games from GOG that I have amassed.
Baldur’s Gate and the remaining D&D games (once again from GOG)

learly there is a problem here. I simply do not need any more games… I think I should aim to finish 3/5 games from my backlog before I buy new ones. So therefore I won’t be buying any more (Animal Crossing New Leaf is exempt from this clause) until I finish at least 5 games from my backlog. Four in February should see me completing two of these (Half Life and Oblivion) and we’ll see what goes on after then!

Wish me luck!

So much for posting every day.

Well that lasted for about four days. Oh well, it’s hard writing something vaguely interesting every day. I might just summarise my week for the poor souls who (don’t) read my blog.

You may of seen my post about Why I wasn’t going to preorder a PS Vita? That didn’t last very long, I’ve preordered the Wifi model since my parents are giving me some money towards it for my birthday. And Amazon are bundling an 8gb memory card and Lumines for an extra £15. It just made sense, even if I won’t be able to play my PS One Classics at launch. Who knows, maybe by the European launch I’ll be able to. Disgaea is out on the 20th of April and I would of bought it for that anyway, so again: It just made sense. Disgaea and Lumines, how could I refuse?

I managed to get hold of a copy of Tales of the Abyss this week for the retail price (rather than the inflated double retail Amazon marketplace price) and have played that through to the first boss. Having never played a Tales game before (I didn’t even look it up on Wikipedia before I dived into the game) I have stumbled across a rather funny active RPG. The battles are based on combos within a 2D plane (but you can move freely, if you want). It’s hard to explain not having played it for terribly long, but if you get a chance and you like JRPGs give it a shot.

I’ve even been playing games on steam this week. I know, right? What an (un)productive week! Turn 375/400 in a Civilization 4 game, and a few weeks into my first season in Football Manager 2011 (which I managed to pick up for 97p!). I should probably go and read some stuff for uni, but what sounds better? Civ 4 or Reactions of Benzene and Aromatic Molecules? Yeah, I thought so too.

I still feel like I should play through my backlog before I buy new games but… it doesn’t seem to work that way. Off the top of my head I really want to complete Skyrim, Saints Row the 3rd, Fallout New Vegas, and Cthulhu Saves the World (just on the PC). On other consoles the list exponentially grows. Such is life I guess? Maybe I should win the lottery and spend my days just playing computer games…

Why I’m not going to buy a PS Vita straight away

I was tempted to preorder a PS Vita Wifi model today, but then I remembered my early 3DS adoption issues. I had Zelda to play for months and that was it. The ambassador games eventually game, but I bought the system in March and didn’t start playing it till December when the Mario games arrived on the scene.

None of the Vita launch titles excite me greatly, and some googling revealed that I won’t be able to play my PS1 classics that I bought on the PS3 ‘at launch’ but rather an unspecific time later. Seriously, what the fuck Sony? That would of made me purchase the system on Day 1. You have the infrastructure present, why can’t you role this out to your new flagship handheld?

Sony! If you had let me log into my PSN account and download my PS1 games I would of preordered a Vita. Sorry, but you’ve messed this one up and you’ve even had a year to one-up Nintendo with their dismal 3DS launch (which has flowered into a pretty awesome first year, by the way). I’ll just wait till Disgaea comes out in March it seems. Handily I get my student loan in early April….

Oh yeah, the Vita does Street Pass too. No wait, I meant Near Application.

"The Near application on PS Vita allows users to discover the games other PS Vita owners are playing nearby. Near also enables location-based gaming features such as gifting, where users can share and leave behind virtual items, such as costumes and treasures, at locations they have visited. "

That sounds… pretty much like the 3DS’s StreetPass, wouldn’t you say?
