Week Notes - 2026-26
This week was a bit on the warm side wasn't it? This meant I didn't really have much energy left for things outside of work, and staying cool/alive... I think we got to the upper 30s last week and the UK hit hottest June day records several days running last week.
The portable air conditioner we bought back in 2023 is still paying dividends. We 'upgraded' to a longer vent pipe and stuffed that through the loft hatch. This meant we didn't need to leave the window open overnight, and made the whole thing much more efficient. Reddit says I should get a second pipe, but I am quite happy with the bedroom sitting at 22ยฐC allowing us a comfortable night's sleep.
Reading
I finished 'This Inevitable Ruin', and started 'Startup Hell' which is corporate satire crossed with fantasy/romance which isn't my usual stomping grounds. In 'Startup Hell', Morgan is a sales person in a tech company who can't decide what their product is.. She crossed paths with a Demon from another plane and well, I was hooked from the very start.
Gaming
I didn't play much except Raccoin which was a new purchase in the Steam summer sale. Think '2p machine' meets Balatro. Lots of fun, highly addictive. Much cheaper than a trip to an actual arcade. I also played a little bit of Hyrule Warriors whilst I am searching for a new 'long game' to sink my teeth in. I still can't decide what to play which is always a bad place to find yourself and usually means I should step away for a little while.
Over the weekend I installed Bazzite and removed Windows from my life except my work laptop. Loving it so far. Being away from Debian/Ubuntu has put me out of my comfort zone but that means I am learning things! I used Claude to help fix my time tracking script, and that is now running in the background starting and stopping time entries automatically.
I also got it to help write some helper scripts for Sunshine to turn off my second screen, and set the resolution to 1920x1080 for streaming. I did mess around with trying to create a virtual display, but I've had no luck so far except managing to make the system unbootable, but thanks to the immutability of Bazzite, it was as simple as chosing the other entry on the boot menu to recover, then rolling back the update.
I'll document the game tracking setup, as well as my experiences with Bazzite in upcoming posts.
